Superlatives

My mind and energy are focused on the trip ahead. Thinking of the bike ride north in the winter is daunting and yet exciting at the same time. However, I can’t help thinking ahead to the next feat. I like the idea of setting out to reach places not yet visited on two wheels. The highest point, the lowest point, etc. and I’ve let it be know that I like the challenge of superlatives.

So it’s not surprising that I’ve been challenged with coming up with a list for this trip. In a way these will serve as a virtual scrapbook of my trip and experiences.

The list of ideas so far includes:

Longest day (hours): from Hope to Merritt via the Coquihalla highway – 14 hours
Longest day (kms):  Buckinghorse River to Fort Nelson – 183 kms
Highest elevation: 1,244 meters
Fastest Speed: 69kms/hr into Grande Cache (thank-you brakes)
Hard lesson learned: you can’t put a merino sweater in the dryer…even on delicate
Coldest day: so far about -20 (colder temps to come)
Most beautiful site: Hand dryer in washroom at peak of the Coquihalla
Most challenging day: Tie between Coquihalla for incline and trip to Jasper for road conditions
Greatest challenge:
Lowest moment:
Best moment:
Favourite riding songtrack:

I’m looking forward to filling in the blanks!

  1. I have not stopped thinking about your challenge since we met at the gas station in Grande Cache.I have told all my clients about your quest and showed them the picture of you and your bike outside the gas station where I met you.Stay positive and forget what that guy told you as he came out of the store and told you were nuts. You are truly an inspiration.

  2. Brek-

What an awesome adventure you are on! As I sit here in my warm office chair, I am inspired by your tenacity, strength and fortitude. While you are alone in the dark on that cold road, know that strangers are out here rooting for your success and safety!

Cheers and thanks for the inspiration!

    Matt

  3. I was surfing the net and looking for places to ride this summer in the Blue River area when I came across your story. Sorry bud, but you are nuts! What an inspiration for the rest of us two wheeled lunatics, congratulations for living life to the fullest. Stay focused and determined, best of luck and keep safe! I will be checking later to see when you complete your journey and I just know you will.
